I’ve got to be honest, more often than not you can find me in black. In fact, when I think of neutrals black is generally the first thing that pops into my mind — regardless of the season. At least that used to be the case. Recently, I have been obsessing over the new trend of all nude everything — and by nude I mean white, cream, ivory, tan, ecru, etc.

Lucky for me, my best girl Laura Leigh of LouellaReese has the same obsession with all neutral outfits as I do. And since two minds are generally better than one, we decided to team up to show you how to rock the all-neutral trend two ways.

five reasons to wear all neutrals.

  1. Basics. I will admit, I love a good “pop” every now and then, but I’m a basics girl at heart. Basics are classics that last forever and go with everything — especially in neutrals!
  2. Mix & Match. You know how I said basic neutrals go with everything? Well this includes with each other! Mix and match all those neutrals and you’ve got a closet full of options.
  3. Always in style. A good neutral in a classic cut will never go out of style. Which means splurging on a cream silk top and/or classic khaki trench will definitely pay off!
  4. Rewearable. I can’t be the only one who gets hooked on certain pieces in my closet — however, it is a bit harder to rewear a leopard maxi dress than it is a great white blouse. At least without people noticing!
  5. Easy to get dressed. This might be my favorite reason to buy and wear tons of neutrals — being able to mix and match lots of pieces from your closet makes getting dressed a breeze.

three keys to neutral outfits.

  • Mix textures. I’m a big fan of mixing textures regardless if the outfit is neutral or not, but especially when it’s an all neutral look. When I say mix textures think of white denim with a gauzy off-white top and a tan leather slide. {basically my exact outfit minus the shoes!}
  • Combine tones. While I do love true white on white, mixing tones makes an all-neutral look so much more interesting. And the best part about neutrals is that they’re so easy to mix & match. {remember that’s one of the reasons to rock them!} You can throw on a white top and a khaki bottom {like my new fave chinos} and you look chic and put together with very little effort!
  • Play up accessories. I’m going to be honest, I’m not a huge accessory person after having kids but I do love a good “statement shoe” — which are most often sneakers for me these days! Pairing an animal print shoe {think slides or sneakers} with an all-neutral look is the perfect way to make those nude tones pop. Or you can mix in a bright colored statement earring and still keep your shoes neutral.

neutrals styled two ways.

Laura Leigh and I teamed up to show you two ways to rock all neutrals. But before I get into that, can we talk about how stinking cute she is?! I’ve followed her forever and absolutely love everything that she does — her style is the perfect mix of feminine and classic with a trendy twist. On top of having a goal worthy blog and Instagram, she is also the kindest human on the planet. She and I are actually in the same Sunday School class at church and have become fast friends since that first day we saw each other in person! So if you don’t follow her, you must go do it now!

When Laura Leigh and I first started talking about doing a collab post we were so excited to show off two totally different ways to wear the same trend. Because if you follow each of us, you know that our styles are very different! She is super feminine and classic and I am … well I am me! Neutrals were the first thing that popped in both of our minds and to be honest, I love how both of our looks came together!

To me, this look epitomizes Laura Leigh’s style — perfect mix of feminine and trendy. Her skirt is so fun — super twirly but the khaki color really tones it down so it would fit in anyone’s closet, regardless your personal style. Now you know that I’m a big fan of a plain white tee and I love how Laura Leigh paired this cropped tee with her girly skirt. My fave part about her outfit though: those classic Reebok sneakers! I’ve got to be honest, I’ve had a pair in my cart since this shoot because she made them look so adorable. Plus I just love that we both chose sneakers to complete our looks — which was totally unplanned!

My look:

It’s no secret that I’m pregnant and am constantly searching for flowy tops that are still flattering. When I spotted this gauzy off-white top I knew that it was perfect not only for this look, but for so many other looks this Spring! And it’s definitely been on constant repeat since I purchased it! Another fun fact: this is the first pair of white jeans I have ever owned! I’m not kidding! I’ve just never found a flattering enough pair and have always thought they were a little too preppy for me. However, since purchasing this maternity pair {that I love} I’ve become obsessed with white jeans. And of course, I’ve paired all of this with my favorite leopard sneakers that always add the right amount of “funk” that seems to be my style!

I hope that this post was as fun to read as it was to shoot! I am absolutely loving the neutral trend and how easy it is to pull off. And always love showing a look two ways — especially when I can do that with such a sweet friend!
